Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. Diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract, which include the organs from mouth into anus, along the alimentary canal, are the focus of this speciality. Physicians practicing in this field are called gastroenterologists.

Capsule endoscopy is a procedure used to record internal images of the gastrointestinal tract for use in medical diagnosis. Newer developments are also able to take biopsies and release medication at specific locations of the entire gastrointestinal tract.
ColonoscopyColonoscopy or coloscopy is the endoscopic examination of the large bowel and the distal part of the small bowel with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a technique that combines the use of endoscopy and fluoroscopy to diagnose and treat certain problems of the biliary or pancreatic ductal systems. It is primarily performed by highly skilled and specialty trained gastroenterologists.

Office Information
- Initial Office Visit all new patients should arrive 15 minutes early in order to fill out registration and medical history forms. You can print your pateint packet here to save time. This information is essential for the doctor to use during your intial examination. You must bring your insurance card and photo ID for your file.
- Emergencies will recieve prompt attention. If you are in our waiting room when an emergency or seriously ill patient comes in, please understand and be assured that if you were in the same situation, your needs would be met immediately.
- Account or Insurance Questions Questions about account balances or insurance information can be answered by the insurance staff by calling 361-884-2858. If you have questions about medical care, the nurse will return calls after the last patient in the evening or early the next morning. We have a voice mail system for leaving messaages.
- Prescription Refills We require 48 hours to have prescriptions refilled. This allows time for the physician to review the request. Have your pharmacy call our offiice, 361-884-2858 or fax to 361-879-9009.
- After office hours calls will be handled by our telephone answering service. All emergency calls are immediately forwarded to the doctor on call. If you experience severe bleeding, pain, or other unusual symptoms, go to the nearest Hospital Emergency Room.
- Fees and Insurance Charges for our medical services reflect the time spent, the specialized nature of the doctor's experience, and the individual diagnostic studies performed. Our fees are comparable to other similarly trained specialists in the field.
